Cuyahoga County Census

Welcome to Cuyahoga County's Census 2010 Website

Cuyahoga County LogoIn 2010, the U.S. government will start the 2010 census as required by the U.S. Constitution. The Cuyahoga County Board of Commissioners is committed to doing as much as possible to ensure that every man, woman and child in the County is counted accurately. We have created this website to raise public awareness about the census and enlisting residents’ help in achieving a full count.

Why the Census is Vitally Important to Every Resident

  • Census data determines how nearly $300 billion is annually distributed for social service and health programs such as Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), job placement and training programs, substance abuse and health counseling and treatment, community development block grants for attracting businesses and helping them be more competitive, and MANY other programs that are essential to County residents.
  • For each individual NOT counted the County loses $1,268 of federal funding that could be used to help County residents.
  • Census data are also used to determine State and U.S. Congressional Districts’ boundaries and how many representatives the County will have in Congress and the Ohio General Assembly.

The Census is Safe & Easy

During the Census of 2000 many people, for many reasons, were scared off, or were just too busy to fill out the long forms used to do the count.  Some residents feared that the information collected would jeopardize their jobs, immigrant status, qualifications for benefits and services, or would be used by law enforcement, or other authorities to take legal action against them. Those fears are unfounded.
  • For 2010, Census forms will be short and easy to fill out, and will only take a few minutes to complete and return by mail.
  • More importantly, by law census information about individuals must remain confidential for 72 years, and cannot be shared with anyone, even law enforcement, welfare and immigration agencies. Even the President of the United States cannot view this information until the 72-year time limit has passed!
